New Zealand flower growers were the first in the world to commercialise this uniquely beautiful flower. It is characterised by the delicate yellow to orange Chinese lantern shaped flowers.
It has an excellent shelf life of between 10-20 days,
with the blooms continuing to mature up the stem
over this period. High demand has been experienced because of its form and ability to be used in many types of arrange-ments from table posy bowls and hand held bouquets to traditional Japanese Ikebana.
The Sandersonia is currently being hybridised within New Zealand and
it is hoped that within the next two to three
years pink and white forms will become available. Attractive elongated bell shapes are also being developed giving this flower numerous potential for world markets.
