Available in a rich variety of colour, the Asiatic Lily may have upright, side-facing or pendulous type flowers. They are an unscented and prolific bloomer often having between 7 and 12 buds per stem. They are available in large quantities from November
to March, and in smaller quantities from April to October.
Most New Zealand growers treat their Asiatic Lilies with STS or its equivalent immediately after harvest to ensure bloom longevity. The optimum storage temperature is 2-5 degrees C (35-40 degrees F), and it is advisable to recut the stems after trans-portation and place in buckets of fresh clean water.
The Hot Oranges, Golden Yellows and Vibrant Red blooms are often in highest demand, with larger bloom sizes becoming increasingly popular. Stamens bear large amounts of rust coloured pollen.
